Wheat Causing Interest In
PMA Vote
"Much interest is being expressed locally in the annual PMA committeeman elections to held a week from Friday,” County PMA Chairman Barksdale said yesterday. “It may be due to the wheat situation.” f He clarified the remark by stating that a large number of farmers are attaching special importance to the marketing quota and price support 'programs on wheat in view of the present and possible continued low market price on wheat due to the large national surplus. Farmers voted for high level wheat price supports last month when they endorsed a 1954 wheat quota program by an 87 per cent majority. Now they have a chance to say who runs the program in each county. It’s democracy at its best.”
In additon, Mr. Barksdale said that he expected “less” flexbility in the 1954 Agricultural Conservation Program which may require more exacting adminstration than in other years. However, he made it clear that provisions of the conservation program are yet to be announced.
Voting on September 25 will be by secret ballot, as usual, and polls in Rappahannock County will be located in the places below, all open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Woodville, Flint Hill, Washington, Sperryville, and Amissville.
