4-H’ers Win At Orange
■ Four Rappahannock 4-H boys exhibited and sold eleven head of hogs at the Orange, Area Market Hog Show and Sale on Sept. 1. Jacob Sisk, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Sisk of IF. T. Valley, won third place with a gilt in the singles division Class A (170-185 lbs.) while Archie Bailey, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Bailey, won fourth in the Pen-of- three division, Class A. Other 4-H’ers participating were Lynn- Atkins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Atkins of Flint Hill and Winfrey Thornhill of Boston, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cary Thornhill.
Jacob Sisk sold 4 head; Archie Bailey, 3; Lynn Atkins, 1; and Winfrey Thornhill, three; these hogs fetched from 26-28c per pound.
In all there were 118 hogs which brought a total of $6,247.05. Other counties represented were Orange, Madison, Culpeper and Fluvana. The Grand Champion single, brought $1 per pound <215 lbs.) was grown and exhibited by Wayne Mahanes of Madison. The Grand Champion pen exhibited by Lindy Wool folk of Orange fetched 38c per pound weighing a total of 570 lbs.
