Mr*. Moffett Appointed UDF County Chairman
Mrs. William F. Moffett, Sr., of Washington, has been named chair-1 man of the United Defense Fund Drive in Rappahannock. The announcement was made today by W. Tayloe Murphy, Virginia’s drive chairman for 1954 in the campaign which is currently underway over the entire nation.
The drive quota in Rappahannock County was set at $202. The quota for the state is $259,010 and the national quota was set at $20,225,000.
Created in 1950, the United Defense Fund represents a federation of fund-i-aising drives, originally set of too many appeals.
Murphy stressed the importance up in an effort to solve the problem of the contributions which the UDF makes in providing entertainment and recreation for servicemen at home and abroad. The federation also provides funds for aiding civilians in congested defense production areas and for helping the stricken people of Korea.
August Baltins Found Dead Of Gun Wounds August Baltins, who came to this country from Lativa five years ago, was found dead of a rifle wound on October 26 near a barn on Fox Ridge Farm, Free Union, where he was employed for 3i years. His son, Guntis, attended the school in Washington.
It is believed that Mr. Baltins tripped in underbrush and discharged the .22 rifle he was carrying as he fell. The rifle stated the sheriff, had
