Helen .Fuller was a member of the Board of Representatives of the Southern Conference for Human Welfare, 1947-1948. (The Southern Patriot for December 1946, page 8; and the report of this Committee on the Southern Conference . . . dated June 12, 1947, page 1). She was a speaker for the Southern Conference at a meeting held in Birmingham, Alabama, November 20-23, 1938, as shown in an official report of the organization. She was a consultant on the panel, Youth and Training: Civilian and Military, ' at the Third Meeting of the Southern Conference held in Nashville, Tenn., April 19-21, 1942, as shown in an official report of the organization in which source she was identified with the Washington Bureau, New Republic. In the report of March 29, 1944, * the Special Committee on UnAmerican Activities cited the Souj, thern Conference for Human Welfare as a Communist-front organi" zation (page 147); the Southern Conference was the subject of a special report released by the Committee on Un-American Ac- tivities June 12, 1947, in which it was stated that the organization “seeks to attract southern liberals on the basis of its seeming interest in the problems of the South” although its “professed interest in southern welfare is simply an expedient for larger aims serving the Soviet Union and
