Number One Killer Fought In February Heart Fund Drive
A renewal of this community’* war against diseases of the heart and circulation will get underway with the opening of the 1955 Heart Fund campaign next Tuesday, February 1st. Mrs, Paul A. Miller is chairman of the county committee. „ An overall goal of $200,000 has been set for the 1955 fund drive. No goal has been set for Rappahannock Cpunty,, except the goal tmgive more than was given last yea^r. Only $50 was raised in response to 400 letters of appeal ; mailed in 1954. Yet diseases of the heart and circulation, responsible for nearly 800,000 deaths yearly, are the nation's No. 1 health problem. Of the nation’s 10,000,000 persons suffering from these diseases of the heart and blood vessels, more than, 500,000 are j children of school age. For evenr 2 people who died in Virginia in j, 1953, 1 died of these diseases.
All contributions received will be used by the Heart Association to support a three-way attack on the heart disease through research, education and community heart projects, with a major portion of the funds remaining in this community and state, and with the remainder going to advance the work .of dw American Heart Aasocfotion. % d
