We were impressed with Lebanon from the first. It's coastline was lovely with the Lebanon mts. in the background. Perhaps you already know that Lebanon is known as the "Switzerland of the East." It is 35 miles and 120 miles long, on the shore of a blue, blue Mediterranean bebtween Israel and Syria.
Vegetables and fruits are plentiful and cheap in season. At the market we found everything from butter to "Howdy Doody” products. We have eaten quite a few AraB foods and like most of them. Coffee is the most difficult. It is as sweet as syrup and almost* as thick. How glad we are that they serve it in demitasse cups. We walked down to the sea last week and went through one of the refuge camps. One of the girls from the church lives there and had missed services several times, so we visited to see what was wrong. The mother came out and insisted that we come in for coffee. We saw that she was going to be offended if we did not accept her hospitality sooooo we went in. The water has to be boiled to heat the coffee and if you can drink it hot^ enough it could sterilize the cup as you drirjk it, not to mention the esophagus.
