Win In Primary
John W. Price, Jr., J. W. Critzer and Herbert Foster were the victors in the only contested seats in Tuesday’s Democratic Primary. “Jackie” Price carried Stonewall, Hawthorne and Piedmont strong, while the incumbant ■ Commonwealth’s Attorney, W. F. Moffett, carried only Jackson District by a large majority. Wakefield and Hampton Districts went to the incumbant, but by narrow margins, of 8 or 10 votes. Mr. Price received 502 total votes and Mr. Moffett, 445.
In the early returns, Sheriff Critzer, the incumbant, moved into the lead, and proceeded to carry every district, with a 625 final total. Candidates Joel Jenkins and J. E. Keyser received 306 and 108 respectively.
The only challenged seat on the Board of Supervisors, in Wakefield District, went to Herbert Foster who defeated the incumbant Cook, by 100 votes. The Win, Lose or Draw party, at the home of Mr. Foster, turned into a victory feast Tuesday night when the election results were announced. A crowd, estimated at close to 500, danced to string music and ate their way through 3 old hams.
Mrs. Robert L. Massie, Commissioner of Revenue, was given a 788 vote of confidence. A. C. Latham received 83 votes for the Board of Supervisors seat from Jackson District, and E. M. Estes, a 113 vote, for the seat of Supervisor from Piedmont District. Miss Margaret Compton was reelected as Trial Justice Democratic candidate with 200 tallies. (None of these positions were challenged in the primary.)
