FEEDER PIGS 'Ilf you have feeder pigs, it’s time to start figuring whether you’U make more selling them soon or feeding them out.
Hog prices probably will get close to $20 by their peak in late June or early July. The feeder pig market probably will stay fairly high at least until then.
In the State graded Tappahannock feeder pig sale last week, pigs under 60 pounds brought $11 to $13 by the head. Pigs 60 to 90 pounds (by the hundred weight brought $20 to $25 and pigs over 90 pounds $18 to $20.
If you have light weight pigs, and have the feed, rt will probably pay you to put a little more weight on them, even at the higher feeder pig prices for lightejr weights.
If you feed them out, you may have to sell when hog prices have passed their peak and are sliding down their usual fall decline.
Heavier pigs will catch about the top of the hog market, but the price you can get for them is pretty good right now. With U.S. Number 2 yellow corn at $1.35 in the Richmond-Norfok area now, it will depend on how you are fixed for feed whether you will make more by selling or feeding.
