Crusade
Workers for the Cancer Crusade are finishing up their drive for 1960. If they were not able to see you, won’t you send your contribution to the Chairman of your District? This would help very much. A good way to help fight cancer is with a check-up and a check.

Forestry Report On
Land Burned
The Virginia Division of Forestry reports that 137 forest fires have burned 541 acres of forest and bush land in the sixteen county Northern Piedmont Districthetween January 1 and May 10. Rappahannock County had 2 fires which burned 2 acres of land.
District Fire Chief, John V. Jackson, reports that approximately 40 percent of all fires started from persons burning brush and trash. Smoker fires accounted for about 30 per cent. Other causes include railroads, campers, lightning, escaped building fires, and logging. Although good snows held fires to a minimum during February and March, the dry weather in April contributed heavily to the fire danger. Dry conditions caused severe damage to timber and forest soil where fires occur.
