No matter which way you look at her, this week’s cover girl (Life Magazine) is Shirley MacLaine in Japan practicing her dual role for the movie, “My Geisha.”
Friends and relatives of Shirley - - in Rappahannock Countftre never surprised when they hear about her undertakings. ‘’She seems to be able to fit in ! anywhere,” a friend was heard to remark. “The movie people seem to think so too. She was selected to receive Khrushchev”, was the remark of another.

Rappahannock County claims Shirley as its “Granddaughter.” Her grandmother, the late Ada Partlow Beatty, was bom and reared in the county and at one time taught in die little one-room school at Mt. Salem, just a short distance from her home.
Shirley is a great-niece of Mrs. D. C. Updike and the late Judge Ira T. Partlow, who at one time was Attorney General of West Virginia. She has visited here on several occasions.
