wnen Mr. tiavemeyer organ to be a serious collector, he and his wife turned to Mary Cassatt for constant advice, and die not only helped tliem in their purchases of old masters, but persuaded them to buy many of the finest Impressionists paintings which were ever brought into this country. Perhaps Miss Cassatt’s scale of livng—her maids, her car, her chauffeur, her gardener_gfc.ve Mr. Havemeyer confidence in her judgment.

Mrs. Potter Palmer was another collector who knew and allowed herself to be advised by Miss Cassatt, for she bought her first Impressionist painting under Miss Cassatt’s tutelage in 1889.
