News For Veterans
Many veterans who are physicdaily no longer able to work are waiting until age 65 to apply for pension under the new pension law. This waiting is not necessary if they are totally disabled from any cause, except misconduct.
In assessing the extent of permanent physical or mental disability with which a veteran is afflicted the VA has to apply the percentage requirements set out in the VA rating schedule as approved by Congress. This is the same schedule used by the armed services in deciding if a service man should be retired or discharged, or retained on active duty. It is true that the older veteran, the less rigid are the disability standards because age is an important factor in determining unemploy-ability.
However, there are many cardiac, respiratory, or arthritic cripples under 65 who have become unemployable. Such veterans are invited to get in touch with this office for detailed information and assistance where income is within legal limits.
