James L. Bray, retired vice president of the Kiplinger Washington Editors and for nearly 40 .years associated with numerous other publishing firms in Washington, D. C., died of a heart attack Wednesday night, October 4, at his farm in Amissville, Va. He was 67.
During his career, Mr. Bray served as business manager, director of sales and vice president for the many Kiplinger publications and also headed his own establishment on L St. N. W.
He was born in Northhampton, Mass., and attended Springfield High School, where he excelled in athletics as well as scholastics. At one time, he turned down an offer to try out as a pitcher with the old Boston Bitaves of the National League.
In World War I, Mr. Bray enlisted as a private in the British Army. At the war’s end he was discharged as a Captain in the British Royal Engineers.
When he returned to the United States, he entered New York University and was graduated with a B.S. degree in Finance and Commerce.
