three fires which accounted tor the remaining 21 percent came from several causes such as lumbering operations, children, lightning, campfires, and warming fires.

Other forest protection work included a total of 84 ca^es in court involving forest fire law violations. Of this total, 68 cases involved violations of the 4 o’clock burning law which is in effect from March 1 to May 15. The remaining 16 cases involved violations of other forest fire laws.

In 103 out of the total 160 fires, the responsible party was established and collections for costs of fire control from these people amounted to $2,336.
