Mrs. Judith W. Brown, 92, widow of Bartow Brown, of Washington, Va., died Monday, January 15 at the Maplewood Nursing Home in Winchester, after a long illness. She was born in Houma, La. on November 6, 1869, a daughter of the late Louis C. and Isabella Fauntleroy West. Miss Jay, as she was affectionately known, was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, where she was a strong supporter and ardent worker, and for many years was active in the church Guild. She was postmistress in the Town of Washington for 26 years and would get up at 4 aan. to get the mail off to Warrenton. At one time Miss Jay operated a boarding house for teachers, for bachelors and for elderly people. Many remember Miss Jay’s rabbit suppers and delicious strawberries.
Surviving is a brother, Louis C. West of Bethesda, Md.; four nieces. Mrs. Harold G. Brown and Mrs. Preston Avery of Winchester, Mrs. C. A. Speake of College Park, Md. and Mrs. Robert Caldwell of Pensacola, Fla.; a nephew, D. D. Miller of Washington, Va. Funeral services were held at 2 p.rh. Wednesday from Trinity Episcopal Church with the Rev. Dabney Carr officiating. Interment was in Washington Masonic Cemetery. _
