he motion was made by Mr. L. H. Luttrell and seconded by Mr. Herbert Foster after a thorough explanation of the plans for the Extension College had been made by Mr. David Berry, school board member and attorney from Madison. The question of the college had been tabled by Rappahannock’s supervisors for the last several meetings due to the lack of information as to the part this county was expected to have in it.
During the question and discus| sion period it was brought out that Madison was considered an ideal location since it was centrally located and it would be possible for professors from the University of Virginia to commute and therefore have the best possible teaching staff which is usually a problem in a rural area.
Mr .Berry explained that the idea for the extension college originated about two years ago at a meeting of the Northern Pidmont Elctric Co-op in Culpeper where they were discussing industrial development and arrived at the conclusion that a local center to train personnel beyond the high school level was one of the pressing needs to attract more industry.
Further work and meetings have brought it to the point that now our local board has given their approval. Now it will have to be approved by the General Assembly. The University of Virginia will also have to assume its responsibility in appropriations.
