In commenting on the new method of ticketing calls, Mrs. Doris IE. Coleman, chief operator, stated that the principle was the same as I.Q. or aptitude test examinations when special type pencils are required for marking answers. When the printed paper is run through a special machine, the test is scored with a minimum of effort and greater accuracy. Mrs. Coleman said, "For many years long distance operators have been accustomed to filling out toll tickets in longhand. Now we simply mark in appropriate places on printed cards with a special marker galled an “electrographic pencil.”
These cards are forwarded daily j to the accounting department in Richmond for processing. Punch card machines intrepret the markings made by the operator and the desired information is automatically punched into the card. They are then machine-sorted according to billing dates.
