Some Local Farmers
The Postmaster at Washington, Va. announced today that Rural Mail Carriers and Star Route Contractors will begin distributing on June 1, 1%2 Livestock Survey Cards to farmer-patrons on their routes about May 21.
This is the first of three regular surveys made with farmer-patrons each year ihrough the cooperation of your Post Office and Department of Apiculture. The second
will be a September acreage survey in the fall and the third another livestock survey somewhat like this one to be made in December. The June 1 survey provides the Virginia Cooperative Crop ReportService in Richmond with basic information for estimating the outcome of the spring pig crop as well as farmers plans for the fall pig crop, the probable size of the 1962 calf crop, the number of milk cows, facts on the wool crop as well as the number of sows farrowed in the spring and intended for the coming fall are determined from information obtained from t lh e June 1 Livestock Survey.
This is a sample survey and only a small number of farmers will receive a survey card. To assure that your community is represented in this survey. Postmaster W. A. Miller urges each farmer-patron receiving a card to fill it out and place it in his mail box.
