Miss Della Hitt Dies
Miss Della M. Hitt of Sperryville died May 10 at her home. Miss Hitt was born October 16 1882, the daughter of James A. Hitt and Almina Nicholson Hitt. She taught school for 53 years in Rappahannock County.
She is survived by a sister, Miss Ebba Hitt.
A funeral service was held at 2. p.m. Saturday from Sperryville Methodist Church with Rev. W. A. Jester and Rev. A. D. Goodson officiating. Interment was in Sperryville Cemetery,
Hundreds of people—young and old—will remember with affection and respect, “Miss Della.” For over fifty years this naturally gifted teacher started a fresh crop of boys and girls on their path of learning. Thoroughness in instruction, coupled with patience and understanding, produced results that were outstandingly satisfactory. Year after year, as regularly as the opening of the session arrived, “Miss Delh<,” neat and trim and always fresh and eager for a new start, greeted her first graders; some like her, eager and hopeful, some doubtful and ready to burst into tears at the strange new situation and surroundings that confronted them.
