Forest Fires
Continued from page one eluded a total of 75 cases in court. Approximately one half of this total involved violations of the 4 p.m. burning law. Other violations included failure to take proper precautions before burning, leaving open air fires before extinguishing them, and failure of railroads to clean right-of-way of inflammable materials which endanger adjacent woodland. Responsibility for es^ caped fires was also established on 70 percent of all fires. The person or persons responsible' were charged for the costs of fighting the fire.

Reckless driving endangers the lives and safety of ever increasing numbers of Park visitors and cannot be tolerated in the Park,. The Skyline Drive was designed anld costructed for a safe and leisurely drive of 35 mph. Mr. Hoskins cautions all drivers to observe the Park speed limit to avoid the unpleasant experience of appearing before the U.S. Commissioner for 'd riving violations.
