Strains' of country music and that from the hobbyhorses, the heady aroma of sizzling hamburgers and hot coffee, the rattle of the roller coaster and chatter of friends as they met could be heard distinctly last night as the Sperryville Fire Company opened its annual fournight carnival on the grounds there. The festive event will continue through Saturday, July 20. A big feature parade will be staged tonight, Thursday, beginning at 7 p.m. with over a hundred units entered. Besides forty odd fire trucks accepting invitations there are 14 rescue squads, 7 ladies auxiliaries and three marching units. Following the parade there will be box suppers containing ham and chicken available as well as hot dogs, hamburgers, drinks, cake and pie. Friday night a young lady will be crowned queen of the carnival and a pony will be given away.
