Awards Announced By Castleton Fire Co.
Castleton Fire Company and Ladies Auxiliary grossed over $5,000 on their annual carnival which ended Saturday night. Members were pleased with their success of the first carnival held on the new fire house grounds. Miss Kay Cubbage reigned as queen of the affair and was crowned Friday night by John Rogers of Radio Station WCVA in Culpeper. Miss Cubbage also presided over the awarding of prizes Saturday night. If you see Mrs. Frances Thornton of Sperryville arriving for work at the Health Office on a bright red motor scooter, you will know that she was winner of the first prize, that is, if Bummywill let her use it. Mrs. Daisy N. Cox of Culpeper is probably relaxing in front of her television she was awarded as second prize. Mrs. R. V. Wharton, Amissville will have the best garden in the community for. she received the garden til-* ler. Other awards were made as follows; Charlie Thomas, Polaroid Land camera; Virginia Hoyle, typewriter; Sandra K. Powell, bicycle; Moffett Wharton, electric shaver; Brown Compton, electric shaver; Mamie Leake, radio; W. W. Carter, 10 silver dollars.
Other prizes given away were: tool set to Lillard Settle; lamp, Mary Tharpe; watch, George Jenkins; catchers glove, Kelly Wharton; luggage, Catherine Brown; pressure cooker, Virginia Farsett; and cordless tooth brush, John E. Estes.
The firemen and auxiliary ladies, in fact the whole community of Castleton, expressed their thanks to the merchants and patrons who helped make the carnival a success.
