A single-car accident near Massies Corner at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, November 19 claimed the life of Robert Emory Leake of Sperryville. Trooper W. A. Buntln said that Leake apparently went to sleep and lost control of his vehicle which crashed into a cement bridge abutment. The car, a 1955 Chevrolet sedan, ran off the left side of the highway before ramming the bridge over Battle Run on Route 211. The vehicle was destroyed. Two panels of the bridge were knocked out. Leake was pronounced dead at the scene by county coroner Dr. John P. Snead, IV, according to Mr. Buntln. His body is at Clore Funeral Home, Culpeper. He is the fifth fatal traffic victim in Rappahannock County this year. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Joyce Jenkins Leake and a two week old son Robert Keith.
