this paper. At 8 p.m. Monday, November 18 on Route 522 a mile and a half east of Sperryville a 1955 International tractor was destroyed by fire after turning over. The tractor, pulling an empty cattle trailer, caught fire while moving down the highway. When the driver, Casper Calvin Brown of Warrenton, saw the flame he quickly applied the brakes and the vehicle skidded on the wet pavement, hit the left bank and turned over. The tractor, owned by H, J. Backe of Culpeper, was completely destroyed by fire and the side of the trailer damaged also, according to W. A. Buntin, investigating officer. There was no serious personal injury and damage to the rig was estimated at $2500. Sperryville Fire Dept, responded to the alarm, extinguished the fire and cleaned up the highway. Earlier in the day Monday, a single-car accident occurred on Route 707 in Jenkins Hollow five miles from Sperryville. Bobby Wright Weaver of Woodville, driving a 1950 GMC pickup, lost control of the vehicle on a curve, struck the bank and turned over. There was no serious personal injury and damage was estimated at $100, according to Trooper Buntin. Weaver was charged with reckless driving.
