Feed Patch Contest
The Rappahannock Game and Fish Club has voted to sponsor a Wildlife Food Patch Contest this year. W. H. Taylor, Game Biologist, suggested the following rules and score sheet to govern the contest. All contestants must be a member in good standing of the club. 1. All seed to be furnished by the Rappahannock Game and Fish Club. No other seed to be used in the contest. (Puts all contestants on same basis.) 2. No patch to be over 1/2 acre or less than 1/8 acre in size. Contestants will be allowed a maximum of four bags of seed but only two patches will be judged. 3. Patch must be located so as not to be grazed by livestock. If necessary, it must be fenced to prevent grazing. 4. An entry fee of $1.00 will be charged. Such fees to be used for purchase of appropriate trophy (or trophies) to be awarded contest winners. 5. All patches will be judged by a representative of the Virginia Game Commission by not later than November 1, 1965. 6. Prizes will be awarded at the April 1966 meeting of Rappahannock Game and Fish Club. Applications for entering contest and seed may be obtained from A. J. Dean, Committee Chairman, Amissville, Roxie Clater, Sperryville, or your County Agent, W. IjJ. Lyn$ Washington, Va. Points on score sheet will be made for location, variety, freeness of weeds, size and seed production. A perfect scoring would be 25 points. Signing up for the contest was started at the Monday night meeting of the Rappahannock Fish and Game Club with about 12 signers.
