Rash of Accidents
During Week-end
Saturday afternoon, night and early Sunday morning a rash of accidents occurred In this county. At 2:45 p.m. Saturday, May 1 on Route 211, a mile and a half east of Washington, a single-vehicle crash occurred. Floyd Wilmer Shanko of Tacoma Park, Md. operating a '63 Chevrolet station wagon was passing another car on the winding road when his vehicle skidded out of control on the wet pavement. He ran off the left of the highway into a ditch. One person was slightly injured and damage was set at $350, said Trover W. A. Buntin who investigated. The following day, May 2, at 7 p.m. Mrs. Margaret E. Bynum of Norfolk skidded off the highway into a fence in her 1963 Oldsmobile. This accident occurred on Route 211 four and a half miles east of Washington. Damage to the fence and to the car was estimated at $25 each. Trooper Buntin also investigated this accident. Trooper Paul Dicks reported a two-car collision Saturday and two single vehicle crash es Sunday morning.
Peter Craig Westafer of Elon College, N. C, and Michael Sealock of Chester Cap collided on Route 522 at 8:45 p.m. Saturday. The Westafer car, a '53 Chevrolet, struck the Sealock car, a '64 Chevro let, as Sealock stopped to make a left turn into Reager Store, according to Mr. Dicks Damage was estimated at $350 to Sealock car and $200 to Westafer.
