Fed. Tax Returns
Should Go to Phila.
Approximately 5 thousand Virginia taxpayers have inadvertently delayed their Federal income tax refunds by mailing them to the District Director's Office instead of the Internal Revenue Service Center, James P. Boyle, District Director, said this week. All Virginia income tax refund returns should be mailed directly to the Internal Revenue Service Center, Philadelphia, Pa., Zip Code 19155, which is the agency that processes and issues refunds. Direct mailing of these returns to the Service Center may expedite refunds by as much as from 10 to 15 days because of a saving in transportation and handling time. No action is taken on refund returns by the District Director’s Office except to repackage and ship them to the Internal Revenue Service43#ffiter, Mr. Boyle said.
For the convenience of taxpayers the IRS enclosed a pre addressed envelope in both the 1040 and 1040-A income tax return package. The address on the 1040-A envelopes must be completed to show Philadelphia, Pa. 19155.
All Forms 1040 and 1040-A which are not accompanied by tax payments should also be sent directly to the Service Center. Such returns with remittances should be mailed to the District Director of Internal Revenue, 400 N. 8th St. Richjnond, Va. 23240.
