mated 6,000 motorcycles have j not undergone official motor vehicle inspection, as required by Governor Godwin's : proclamation of June 22,1966, Colonel C. W. Woodson, Jr./ Superintendent of State Police and Chairman of the. Governor’s Highway Safety Committee, announced today. The requirements of this pro clamation were that all vehicles licensed as motorcycles,; with two exceptions, must; undergo the first of two semiannual inspections by January 1, 1967. The exceptions were four wheeled vehicles -weighing less than 500 pounds and having less than six horse power propulsion, as motorized wheel chairs and riding lawnmowers, and motorized bicycles capable of being propelled by human power. Colonel Woodson warned that anyone operating an uninspected motorcycle is inviola tion of the law and subject to arrest. He urged that anyone owning an uninspected vehicle present it for inspection at once. A trip to an inspection station, he said, can be made legally if the rider makes a previous appointment with the station and proceeds directly there at the appointed time.
Previous to the proclama tion, motorcycles of less than five horsepower were not required to be inspected. However, Colonel Woodson said (that the unprecedented rise in registrations of light motor cycles and a corresponding rise in deaths and injuries to motorcycle riders „ requires that everything possible be done to make them safer.
