who says he believes it was put up just prior to the Civil War for Catlett Fitzhugh and his partner, a Mr. Yates. After this it was operated by Richard Buckner, then Willie Wingfield and W. W. Sleet. In 1904 J. N. Crigler was the merchant and stayed there until 1919 at which time James A. Estes took it over, continuing until 1946. E. M. Estes was proprietor here from 1947 until 1966 when he had a new building erected.
