In 1964 Cook was reassigned to Harpers Ferry National Historic Park, Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, where he remained until beginning his service in the Everglades the next year. In May of this year Cook received a special act award of $250 for the exemplary manner in which he managed the complex Mangrove District of more than 700,000 acres in the Everglades. Cook resides in Government housing near the North Entrance to Shenandoah on the outskirts of Front Royal.
