Chicken Dinner Oct. 7
There will be a chicken and chitterling dinner at the home of Mrs. Ruth Rankin on Saturday, October 7 starting at 5 p. m. It is for the benefit of the Usher Board of Hopewell Baptist Church and is sponsored by Charles Williams, Sr.

Seaman Recruit Howard C. Lawson Jr., USN, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard C. Lawson Sr. of Amissville, has been graduated from nine weeks of Navy basic training at the Naval Training Center here. In the first weeks of his naval service he studied military subjects and lived and worked under conditions similar to those he will encounter on his first ship or at his first shore station. In making the transition from civilian life to Naval service, he received instruction under veteran Navy petty officers.
