LTC John C. Adams was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service as Chief of the Oral Surgery Section, United States Army Dental Detachment, United States Army Air Defense Center, Fort Bliss, Texas for the period 2 July, 1967 to 23 June 1968. The award ceremony was held in the office of the Commanding Officer, United States Army Hospital, Camp Kue, Okinawa on 15 August, 1968.
LTC Adams is presently Chief of Oral Surgery and Chief of the Hospital Dental Clinic, U. S. Army Hospital at Camp Kue.
He is the son of Mrs. Matilda Walker of Washington, Va.
Series of Minor
Crashes Reported
Minor traffic crashes have been reported in the past week and include a car striking a deer, another crashing into a bank and a third involving two vehicles.
Philip Ritenour of Amissville struck a deer Sunday night on Route 522 a mile south of Huntly. The 65 Mustang operated by Ritenour was damaged to the extent of about $250, according to Trooper Paul Dicks.
Monday afternoon, Trooper Dicks investigated a collision on Route 522 a mile north of Flint Hill. A 1968 Chevrolet gas truck owned by J. S. Cooley of Front Royal and driven by Edgar Allen Cooley of Middletown was struck in the rear after it had stopped for a school bus unloading. Clarence Dearing of Washington, Va. operating a 63 Chevrolet struck the gas truck. All vehicles were heading north. Dearing was charged with following too closely. Damage to his car was estimated at $150.
Mrs. Judy Sue Miller of Amissville, operating a 65 Mustang, ran off the right of the road and struck a bank on Route 640 west of Amissville. She was not injured but was charged with reckless driving by Trooper J. B. Willis who investigated.
Shooting Matches
The Chester Gap Fire Department has started the annual shooting matches for the season. The matches will be held each Saturday night beginning at 7 p.m. rain or shine. Prizes include hams, turkeys, beef, etc. and 12, 16 and 20 gauge guns will be used. ** -3
