Constitution Week
This week, September 17-23, by act of Congress and by Presidential proclamation, is known as Constitution week. Local observance of this week is being sponsored by the Culpeper Minute Men Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
The observance of Constitution Week is designed to remind Americans of the debt they owe to the founding fathers, who, with moral and spiritual courage, designed an instrument to unite 13 free States into one sovereign country - the United States of America. It is a warning that eternal vigilance is necessary to assure the continued greatness of our country. We have a sacred obligation to our ancestors, to ourselves, and to our children to make every effort possible to keep the Federal Government within the bounds of our Constitution.
If our free enterprise system and individual freedom of choice, under the Constitution, are not to be replaced by a Socialist state, if our property rights are to be protected as one of our unalienable human rights, we must1 teach our children that the Government should do for them only what they cannot do for1 themselves, and that they must ‘ accept responsibilities to preserve our Constitution. 1 Let us display our flag during ! Constitution Week, and on all patriotic holidays, to show our devotion to the ideals upon which 1 this republic was founded. Let us 1 try to live up to these words of the American’s Creed: “It is my duty ; to my country to love it; to 1 support its Constitution; to obey its laws; to respect its flag; and to defend it against all enemies.’’
