Local Reception

Over one hundred Friends of the Rappahannock Library received area authors and journalists at a party in their honor Sunday afternoon at the library. The Board of Directors planned this reception to acquaint writers of the area with the facilities of our public library in Washington, Virginia, and to make it possible for the Friends of the Library to get to know some of the fine authors and journalists who live, at least part-time, in or near Rappahannock County. Among those welcomed at the reception were Mr. and Mrs. James L. Kilpatrick from Woodville. Mr. Kilpatrick is well known for his syndicated column; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Edward Neal of Culpeper, both of whom have had numerous books and articles published; Pulitzer Prize winner Edward A. Harris and Mrs. Harris of Washington, Va.; Walker Stone, editor in chief of the Scripps-Howard Newspapers, and Mrs. Stone from Hawthorn Farm, Woodville; Dr. T. P. G. Liverman, professor at George Washington University and author of several textbooks, and Mrs. Liverman of Amissville; Col. and Mrs. John Skelton of Brightwood; Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Moseley of Rixeyville. Many of Mrs. Katherine Moseley’s articles have appeared in Virginia Wild Life, and she also is the author of children’s stories; Mrs. Katherine Oettinger of Canterbury, Washington, Va. who was accompanied by her son Malcolm Oettinger, a free lance writer and his wife Louise who is connected with the Washington Post.

Among the guests who came from Washington, D. C. were Mr. and Mrs. Simon Kriger, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold H. Dammen, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Manookian, Mr. and Mrs. Robert G. Leary, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Gullickson, Mr. and Mrs. George Muth.

Social Worker Resigns

Miss Marion Gundlach, who has been a social worker with the local Welfare Department for the past year, has resigned to accept a like position with the Welfare Department of Dorchester County, Md. She moved from her home in Amissville last weekend.
