Bandit Holds Up
Truck Driver
A Negro gunman held up a tractor-trailer driver on Route 211 just east of Panorama in Rappahannock County Tuesday morning. According to Trooper R. M. Dodson, the gunman escaped in a small light colored auto after robbing the driver of about $29.
Gordon Neil Metzker of Hillside, Md. driving a heavy rig owned by Hess Oil & Chemical Co. of Washington, D. C. was the robbery victim. He was traveling up the mountain, slowed by a full load, when a Negro male appeared on the roadside and jumped up on the running board of the truck weilding a small gun. He commanded the driver to open the door, and when he did, demanded his money. The truck operator handed the man his wallet and the bandit emptied it of the cash which he thought was approximately $29. Next Metzker was told to blow his horn and when he did a small light colored auto operated by another colored male drove up. The truck driver was ordered to lie down and the bandit and his accomplice escaped.
Trooper Dodson was notified and after investigating a general alarm was broadcast for a male Negro, light skinned, close shaven and close cropped hair.
