Two Single-Car
Crashes Reported
Danny Ray Baldwin of Sperryville was charged with reckless driving and hit and run after being involved in a single-car crash in Sperryville Monday evening about 6:40 p.m. According to Trooper P. P. Dicks, Baldwin was operating a 66 Chevrolet on Route 1002 in the village when he struck a bridge, lost control of the vehicle and ran off the left of the street. The auto ran through the yards at the homes of Roy Alther and Marshall Corbin tearing down several panels of fence. Baldwin did not stop, and was not apprehended until Tuesday afternoon. Damage to the car was at least $600, but he was not injured.
Randolph Starks of Washington, Va. operating a 61 Ford convertible, had a wreck Saturday night on Route 626, Blacksburg road, in the Town of Washington. According to Trooper W. A. Buntin, Starks lost control of the vehicle, skidded off the left side of the road and over a culvert, knocking down a retaining wall of the highway Department, valued at $100. Starks was not injured, but a reckless driving charge is pending.
