the Park and Commission owned land. License requirements on all trout stocked streams are a county or state resident license or non-resident state license plus a special trout license. A three day trip license is not valid in trout stocked waters. Anyone who wishes to fish in the Park only may obtain a Shenandoah National Park license from the Park or from the Madison County Clerk’s office. On the subject of licenses, a license is required of all youngsters as soon as they tum 16. Resident children under 16 need not have a regular license or trout license. Non-resident children under 16 are required to have licenses as adults unless they are accompanied by a valid license holder.
More and more use is being made of the three day trip license which is available to both residents and non-residents for $1.50 and is valid in all but trout stocked waters. This is a good buy for summer visitors. You can buy them in advance and get any three consecutive days you desire.
Sucker fishermen are having good success in some few spots, and falling off to fair and poor in other places. Monumental Mills seems to have been the nearby hotspot in recent weeks. Rock Mills and the lower Hughes and Hazel near Boston and Slate Mills seem fair. 1 haven’t talked to any fishermen on the Rappahannock for awhile so 1 just don’t know how the river is producing. The suckers seem to be in the streams but aren’t biting much in this clear water.
In talking about suckers and other non-game fish, the question often comes up as to how these fish may be legally taken. They must be taken by rod or pole or hand line with a baited hook. An angler may use as many of these rigs as he'd like for taking non-game fish.
No fish, including suckers or eels, or other non game fish or game fish may be taken bysnagging, gigging, snaring, grabbing or other such method in Rappahannock or adjoining counties. The taking of minnows and mad-toms with a seine is legal in Rappahannock provided all other fish are returned to the water.
