Don’t you think it’s time to vote your convictions instead of your traditions? The party of Byrd and Johnson is dead. The party of Humphrey, Kennedy, Muskie, George Meaney, Walter Reuther and Jimmy Hoffa is the democratic party wave of the future. The party of Battle, and Spong cannot survive. Look at how nearly Howell won, his long silence, the endorsements of his henchmen and the political philosophy of Battle’s running mates. The democratic party of Virginia has never elected a slate with the composite philosophy of the present slate and Virginia needs the two party system. Now is your chance. Vpte for the party that believes in fiscal integrity; that is trying to solve the welfare problem instead of perpetuating it as a captive voting asset; that believes those who work should have more than those unwilling to work; that is trying to solve the problem of inflation; that is^de-escalating the war after 8 long years of escalation-Remember Korea-and do not be bamboozled by those who have constantly escalated the war for 8 years and demand miracles in 10 months. Vote for the party that believes citizens have duties and obligations as important as their rights and privileges; that help is important but desire is equally important. Vote for the party that believes no one is the slave of his environment; that one is part of one’s environment, helps create it, may change it, or move to a new environment. We’ve seen it happen often in Rappahannock and it makes us all proud. Go where the constructive action is! Go Republican! Vote the straight Republican ticket!
