Young ladies between the ages of 4 and 18 are wanted as contestants in the Jaycee Beauty Pageant scheduled this year for April 30. Entries are still being accepted along with sponsor fees. Business establishments or individuals may sponsor contestants and the fee is $3.00. Top prize money offered this year will be $300 for the older group.
The contest is open to young ladies who are county residents. Competition wil be divided into four age groups.
R.L.E.P. Joins State
Conser’tion Council
The Rappahannock League for Environmehtal Protection was accepted for membership in the Conservation Council of Virginia at its recent Spring Meeting in Annandale. The local group thus becomes affiliated with nearly forty organizations totalling over 200,000 members throughout Virginia. The Conservation Council of Va. is composed of representatives from each member group and exists “to provide a coordinating structure for the conservation (preservation and-or wise use) of the State’s Natural Resources.” Its influence has affected decisions both in Richmond and Washington on numerous environmental matters including the Salem Church Dam, Dismal Swamp, James Basin and Blue Ridge Projects. Member organizations include The Isaac Walton League, Sierra Club, Farm Bureau Federation, League of Women Voters and the Federation of Garden Clubs.
According to R. L. E. P. President, Phil Irwin, membership in the Conservation Council of Virginia will be of Great help to local citizens who may be interested in environmental quality either in Rappahannock or state-wide. Anyone wishing to comment on environmental matters is invited to write to: R. L. E. P., Flint Hill, Va. before the next Conservation Council of Virginia Meeting on May 16.
