A bag limit of one deer per day and two per license year for the upcoming season has been formally proposed by the Game Commission. This action, in addition to several other proposals of the more liberal nature affecting Rappahannock County, was taken at the Commission meeting on March 19. Also proposed were regulations which will open Rappahannock to fall turkey hunting and a longer season for coon hunters. The bear season as proposed will be moved back to opening the third Monday in November, the same as deer, and will continue through January 7. The deer season will remain the same as past years. It will open the third Monday in November, which will be the earliest date possible this year, November 15; January 5 will again be the last day. Also as in the past several years there will be one doe day, the last day of the season. Under the new proposal two deer per year could be taken but only one doe since the daily limit is one deer and there is still only one doe day. Needs Volunteer
Over 65,000 volunteers from throughout Virginia will assist with the American Cancer Society’s 1971 educational and fund raising Crusade which is taking place this month. There is, however, a shortage of volunteers in Rappahannock County. More campaign workers are needed in Hampton District and a captain is needed in Hawthorne District. Offer your services to the Crusade by calling 987-8248.
The Crusade goal for Rappahannock County is $1500, according to the fund drive chairman, Mrs. Stanley Reynolds, who says with the cooperation of all, this can be attained or ever surpassed.
More than 1,500,000 Americans are alive today because they have been cured of cancer due to early diagnosis and improved methods of treatment. One out of three patients are cured today as compared to a one-in-five ratio twenty five years ago. Education of the public to facts concerning warning signals and regular checkups is one of the aims during Cancer Control Month.
