Could you use $434.40 tax free each month? This is the amount many young disabled workers and their families now receive from Social Security reports Mrs. Hazel F. Crumpton, District Manager of the Winchester Social Security office.
If you have a physical or mental condition which prevents you from doing any substantial gainful work you could be eligible for social security disability payments. The disability does not have to be permanent, as many people believe said Mrs. Crumpton. It is only necessary that the disability be expected to last at least 12 months or has already existed for at least 12 months. She also pointed out that the amount of work a young worker needs to qualify for payments is less than an older worker - a worker age 31 or older needs credit for five years of work out of the 10 years ending with the date he or she becomes disabled. However, a worker that becomes disabled before age 24 would need only 1 1-2 years of work in the 3year period ending when the disability begins. If you are between age 24 and 31 you need credit for having worked only half of the time between age 21 and the time you become disabled. Most young people still think of Social Security as something for the “older folks,” but if you are among the 2 1-2 million young people who receive disability benefits you know that Social Security is a “now happening.”

At a recent 4th grade 4-H girls’ meeting Mrs. Janet Vest and her assistant, Mrs. Elizabeth Scherschel helped us on the subject of potato printing with paint, paper and potatoes, with designs cut on them.
We had a very nice time for this week of art.
