1964 when it was opened for spring hunting, will have its first fall season in many years, if this regulation is passed. Effective this fall will be the already passed regulation setting the yearly limit on turkeys at 3. As with all counties east of the Blue Ridge, Rappahannock's season would mean gobblers only both spring and fall. A proposal has been made that would set Rappahannock’s raccoon season from October 1 to March 10. This will give us the same season as Fauquier and Madison Counties. This addition of almost two months to the previous season of October 15 to January 31, should meet with approval of most local coon hunters. Most had indicated they would like to do away with the previous short season, yet not throw it wide open. The 2 day bag limit remains. In an effort to compromise between those trout fishermen
Sperryville Rescue
Unit Elects Officers
At the annual election meeting of Sperryville Rescue Squad held April 5, 1971 Donald Gore was returned to the chair as president of the organization. Wilson Burke was named first vice president and Wilson Atkins as second vice president.
Cletus Clarke and Charles F. Dodson were elected first and second lieutenants, respectively; Mrs. Marie Jenkins was named secretary and Mrs. Cecil Baldwin was elected treasurer. First and second sergeants respectively were C. E. Dodson and Roger Atkins.
Directors for the organization include Thomas Baldwin, Donald Gore, Mrs. Marie Jenkins, Ian Pryde, Mrs. Cecil Baldwin, and Mrs. Margaret Bright. Dr. J. P. Snead was named medical advisor while James W. Fletcher was asked to be legal advisor. Chaplains are the Rev. W. A. Harrison and the Rev. Jerry Campbell.
Garden Club Meets
At Greenwood Farm
The Rappahannock County Garden Club will meet Wednesday, April 21 at the home of Mrs. Evan McNear, Greenwood Farm, Washington, Va. The Program Chairman, Mrs. Elmo D. Flynt, will make a presentation on the “Do’s and Don’t’s of Flower Show Arrangements” in preparation for the Flower Show which will be held Saturday, May 22, 1971. “Arrangement of Spring Flowers” will be the Exhibit.
