evocation of the world of the ruling class in late Victorian England. The book embraces politics and patronage, recreation and romance, scandal and sentimentality - it glows with anecdote and is alive with characters. One can see in this book the final glory of the nineteenth century British Empire - especially in India - when the United States was just on the eve of its growth and power. Maintenance of ASC

Practices Required

Conservation and pollutionabatement practices established with cost-sharing approved by the County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation (ASC) Committee must be maintained for their normal lifespan. When a farmer installs a needed conservation practice, he normally has every intention of realizing its full benefits for a long period. “For the lifespan of the practice” is the term used by ASCS. “Sometimes it happens that a farmer will make a change in his farm operations that interrupts the lifespan of a practice he installed with cost-sharing,” said H. S. Barksdale, producer, unless the practice failed due to conditions beyond his control.” Mr. Barksdale drew attention to the operation of this lifespan provision as it relates to participation in the 1971 set-aside programs for feed grain and wheat. All or part of the cost-sharing must be refunded in instances where a farmer or rancher takes either of the following actions as a result of his participation in the set-aside programs: 1. Breaks out, before the .expiration of the lifespan of the practice, vegetative cover established or improved with costsharing.

2. Fails to establish an eligible conservation cover within the specified time on land where liming materials or other minerals have been applied with cost-sharing.
