Fitness Tests

Rappahannock County High will be among area high schools representing Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington, D.C., who will be vieing for a shot at the national finals of the Marine Corps^ Youth Physical Fitness Championships during the Second Annual RS Baltimore Youth Physical Fitness Meet to be held at the/Baltimore Marine Corps Reserve Center on April 24th. Sixty-six young athletes will compete in the competition to prove their physical ability in a series of five selected events. The Champion will be determined by an aggregate team score in timed exercises of sit-ups, pullups, squat-thrusts, push-ups and 300 yard run. The test is based on Marine Corps standards used in recruit training and are designed to instill confidence in individual physical abilities. Winner of the Competition becomes eligible for selection to the National Finals to be held in Washington, D.C. in June, should they win the District Meet during May, to vie for individual scholarships and school athletic grants as they compete against teams from throughout the nation. Two schools from the Fourth Marine Corps District which includes the states of Pennsylvania, Ohio, W. Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, Virginia, Kentucky and the District of Columbia will be selected for the National Finals at the District Meet.

Thorntons Gap Revival

A Revival will be held at Thorntons Gap Regular Baptist Church from April 19 to 25th with services beginning at 7:30 p.m. each evening. The guest speaker will be Kirby Shenk of Luray. The public is invited.

Cost-sharing practices are being established this year under the Rural Environmental Assistance Program (REAP). In previous years, cost-sharing was through the Agricultural Conservation Program (ACP). The lifespan provisions apply to practices established under either program.
