Virginia’s 1971 feeder calf sales wei e up in price and numbers. The 40,540 calves sold through the 38 producer-sponsered sales were the largest nuihoer ever offered for the Virginia marketing program.
The sales are conducted by the individual macJtets. The Virginia Tech Extension Division cooperates in an advisory or educational capacity.
Discussing prices received for the cattle, K. C. Williamson, an Extension specialist in cattle marketing and a professor of animal science, reported that all the steer calves ^moved through the 1971 " sales averaged $38.90 a hundred pounds. That is about $3 over the 1970 average and the highest price
