“The weights this fall were the lightest since 1965 when steer calves averaged 461 pounds each and heifer calves 428 pounds. The only explanation for the lighter weights seemed to be the unusual amount of rainfall throughout most of the state during the summer. Pastures were exceptionally lush, but not ideal for milk production and its weight gain on the calves,” Williamson asserted.
