The Remedial Reading Program of Rappahannock. County Elementary School lasted 19 days for students that needed additional help in reading.
Mrs. Corina Fountain, teacher, and Miss Jane Kilby, aide, were in charge of the diagnostic program. The pupils were screened and selected according to their past reading performance. Nine boys and four girls wer e engaged in this program.
Each child was diagnosed as to his basic reading skills. Weaknesses found in phonetic analysis, structural analysis, vocabulary development, comprehension, and study skills were remediated by use of a wide variety of reading materials and approaches.
Individual continuous pupil profiles were provided for a running record of each child’s progress. The program was individualized so
