Polo team is downed
WITH A SLIGHT change in schedule this past Sunday, a Casanova polo team comprised of Joe Claffy, John Gulick and Jim Hourahan traveled to Carlisle, Pa. where they were joined by Gil Martin of Philadelphia to complete the foursome.
The Casanova players all agree that this was one of the fastest and best games that they have competed in this season. The game which was a six period silver trophy tournament match was held on the outstanding fields of Max Hempt’s Polo Circus in Carlisle. The match was witnessed by an estimated 3,000 fans.
Casanova was defeated 8 to 5. Their Pennsylvania opponents took the lead in the first period and despite outstanding defensive and offensive plays by the Casanova Team, Casanova was unable at any point in the match to catch up. This was one of the few defeats suffered by the local club this year.
Scoring for Casanova was as follows: Field Goals, one by Hourahan, Foul Goals one by Gulick, Handicap three.
The Carlisle Players have agreed to come to the Casanova Fields sometime in September for a return match.
Glenn Hourahan last Friday in a local Scrimmage broke three fingers on his right^ hand in a polo accident when his pony tripped and fell on top of him. □
