According to Trooper R. A. Baines, Havas was charged with reckless driving after striking the VW head on. Injured in the wreck were Nancylee Petty who suffered a broken sternum, cracked ribs, contusions of the head, kneecap and nose and cut left hand. _ Stephen Petty sustained bruises while Eric Petty had a broken left finger and hand and lacerated right leg. They were passengers in the Volkswagen and all were taken to Fauquier Hospital bythe Amis - sville Rescue unit.
Damage to the Mercedes was set at $1500 and at $1000 to the VW.

Elmer Hickerson of Chester Gap operating a 64 Chevrolet was making a left turn into a grocery store when a 62 Chevrolet approached rapidly from the rear. The Chevrolet, operated by Ronald Atkins of Sperryville , unable to stop, swerved to avoid striking the Hickerson car. The Atkins vehicle went out of control and crashed
