“We’ll start getting money from the tags soon, and that’ll carry us to the First of July,” said Wood. “And then we can re-evaluate the situation.”
“I don’t believe all of Rappahannock County has got as many sheep as Fairfield Farm, over in Fauquier,” said Herbert Foster, during a brief lull in the conversation. “They’ve got 600 sheep.”
The vote was called. Only Mrs. Coates and Latham voted “no.” The three others approved Foster’s motion to reject the increase.
Contacted afterward, Newbill Miller said that while there are no funds available to pay Dog Warden Jack Bruce’s salary at this time, all back pay will be made up when dog fee payments start coming into the county. Payment of the fee can start as early as November 1.
TO SORT OF CAP things off, Warden Bruce came in later in last Thursday’s meeting with a dog claim, for three ewes at $25 apiece, and one buck — at an assessment that had to be determined.
“I saw them,” reported Bruce. “The first one had been dead several days when I got to the Eastham farm, and had sort of been pushed up in a barn. There was no question at all that dogs did it.”
